Additional VADs were still being formed.

Tribunal proceedings at the Town Hall on 26 September 1917 were interrupted to present the Distinguished Conduct Medal to Sergeant William James Collins of the 8th Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment, who was then convalescing at The Larches. Many of his fellow patients and the commandant of the hospital attended the ceremony. The Mayor of Kidderminster, J.H. Watson, pinned the medal to his chest.

As far as Kidderminster people were concerned it did not matter that the patients were not local, they were wounded heroes who deserved all the help and support that could be given. This support often took the form of organised entertainments, outings, gifts and fundraising events. In August 1915 Brinton published an:
